Hey guys so lately ive been getting a whistle noise sounds like its from the rear of the truck. It happens when i hit around 40MPH and let off the gas. im thinking u-joints? anybody have any ideas i cant tell where its coming from.
Im going to guess your hearing the sound on the passenger side. And your exhaust pipe ends right behind the rear passenger tire. So the whistling sound your hearing is just the Turbo bud.
Carrier bearing on my 6.0l makes a rotational whine/whistle sometimes. You can tell with it that's it's something spinning. Very different from the turbo whine.
Yea it defenitely seems like something other than the turbo. My driveshaft defenitely has some play and I can tell atleast one of the u joints is bad. I will also check carrier bearing. Thanks for the responses. Ill let you guys know if I resolve the problem.
x2 on the carrie bearing. Not that i would call myself an expert, but after replacing 7 of them i will say that they make some funky @$$ grinding/whistling noises when theyre bad. I could hear it best when im driving next to a tall curb, like the ones your next to in a left hand turn lane.
Is there a way you can check to see if the sound just starts when you let off the accelerator, or is it a constant and can only be heard when motor slows? Have somebody drive your truck and pull next to it in a seperate vehicle and listen for the whistle.
yes it sounds like that video! pretty damn close sometimes you can hear it start to make the noise when accelerating but it is definitely worse when let off the gas. after 35-40 mph.
Glad we got it figured. That is such a hard one to diagnose/ explain. Mine is intermittent and I cant ever make it do it. It just does it when it wants so I couldn't get anyones advice on it really.
Also, I forgot to mention that's not my video. That video was done by Sr. Master Tech off of youtube. He put that on his facebook a while back and that's how I learned what my problem was
Hey Guys I finally did the u joints the other day. It got rid of that horrible whistle noise! However I still have a problem on the highway at about 70mph it feels like my rear tires are locking up and my abs light was on. I had a problem not that long ago where I had to replace the wires going to the VSS on the rear diff. Could it be a lose connection somewhere? Or maybe I have a bad bearing somewhere? Or maybe it is just my bakes that need to be serviced. Any help troubleshooting this problem would be great. Thanks for all the answers guys great forum to be on.
