coolant pressure tester

I know this is not dentside related, but it will be used on both my trucks...

I am considering purchasing a coolant pressure tester and we have a multitude of brands of vehicles in the family.

Mainly 1999 and newer GM, 2000 and newer Dodge and then my old Fords.

I would like to find a kit that will work with all of them, but not break the bank.

This is the kit I am considering.

OTC 7991 Cooling System Pressure Tester : Amazon.com : Automotive OTC 7991 Cooling System Pressure Tester : Amazon.com : Automotive
(Why does it double post the link?????)

Does anyone have experience with this specific one, others that work well or ones to stay away from?

Thanks

I did a little more research last night and this morning and it looks like the Stant kit that you have to buy specific adapters for different types of vehicles is the favorite. I could get this kit and buy the extra adapter or two and that would put me around the $150 mark.

The kit I have linked above, gets pretty good reviews and most non-professional mechanics seem to like it's versatility, but say it takes a little getting use to, to seal the bladder correctly.<O</O

I plan to pull the trigger on a kit no later than Monday night.

Just curious. I understand what information you'd get with the tool, but just wondering what you'd do with the info?

Not quite sure I follow you.

It is meant to help find a leak in the system. Once you find the leak, you fix it.

I've got a Stant tester. The only adapter I had to buy was for the later 92 and up Crown Vics.
Sometimes - you can find a good used one from a local tool dealer.

Ahh. Ok, sorry. Not thinking well this am. Was thinking it would let you know how much pressure the system had. So it just pressurizes the system.

No problem, I'm not a morning person either....

Correct, It will let you pressurize the system without running the engine and getting it hot.

Some leaks are so small, they only release fluid when hot, but because the engine block is hot, the fluid dissipates before you get a chance to find the leak.
