You have the correct black Ignition Control Module. Many parts manuals are wrong, including Ford. 1994 and up trucks use the black colored CCD-style ICM.

ICM
Probably. The black Motorcraft are hard to find. I am running a Taurus 6cyl in my 5.8 and my spare is from a straight six truck 300. Both work great.
The wiring connector and heat sink are the same but the computer controls the dwell and the wiring is different in the later year CCD design.
I bought a couple of Motorcraft grey ones which do not work so let me know if anyone wants them.
Of course pulling codes is the first step for running rich. Thermostat should be 195. Then if codes are good, look at O2, ECT and ACT.

My current codes are p0171 bank one running rich. P1506 IAC over speed. P1401 EGR sensor messed up (but I've know about that.

p0171 is bank one lean not rich, isnt it? combined with p1506 idle speed, i would be looking for a vacuum leak on the pass side of the engine.

Well I drove the truck today and it idled correctly and seemed to run better then it has been in the last week. I haven't narrowed down a vacuum leak yet but as far as I can tell I don't have one.
