I just recently bought my 2002 F250 Lariat with the 5.4 and 76 thousand miles. I love this truck but I've started to notice a few things with it. When i go to start the truck it sometimes starts but then instantly shuts off. When i try it again it takes a long time to crank over. This has happened in cold and warm weather. Any suggestions on what the problem could be and things i could do to prevent it?
Your issue could be a few things, like low fuel pressure, or perhaps a dirty or malfunctioning IAC valve. I would also look for any rotted, torn, or disconnected vacuum lines.
There are a couple of things that may help your search. First, the fact that it's an F250 or a Lariat trim are pretty much irrelevant. It could be the most stripped-down F350 DRW, and it wouldn't be any different as long as it's got the same engine. The only thing that really matters for this kind of problem is the year and engine, so that's what should probably go in the title of a thread like this.
