Just switched to Rotella T-6 5w40, truck loves it. Its been a lot cooler here the last week and it starts right up like a champ in the morning, but I did notice a little white smoke.. very little and it clears up within a few seconds. You can barley even see it. Is this normal? FICM at 48 on start and back up to 48.5 while driving.
Seems like my EOT and ECT are always 15* apart until the truck is fully warm, is this normal, even creeps over 15* but only durring warm up. ECT is always higher.
When the truck sits all night 12+ hours the numbers are always the same or off by 1 or 2 between EOT, ECT, and TFT.
Yeah I should have mentioned its almost like condensation, nothing like a car on a cold day. Just had the radiator flushed too and no leaks or coolant loss. Degas cap looks good too. Next project is to replace the heater core.
My truck seemed to like the Rotella T6 also. Smoothed it out a lot in the mornings. In my case the FICM is good, the ICP/IPR is good and RevX helped a lot with idle quality on cold starts so I'm sure it's stiction. I may try cleaning my spool valves on the injectors this fall before the temps start dropping. But for now the Rotella seems to be working noticeably better than the Motorcraft Dino I was using before.

No coolant loss that I can see and the cap looks just fine.
Sounds like your good to go. Just keep an eye on the deltas after the engine is totally heat soaked. Usually about 20 miles at highway speeds. Could be longer with colder ambients.

This says the coolant runs 15 degrees warmer, is this correct or a misprint?

While the truck is warming up, coolant will heat up faster than the oil. The difference between ECT and EOT only matters once you're up to operating temperature of ECT>=190*. So any difference, 15* or greater, where the ECT is GREATER than oil temp while LESS than 190* doesn't matter. If you're seeing ECT never get to 190* but EOT climbing up to 190*+, it's probably a thermostat issue.

Ya, I see what he is saying now, mine does the same thing.
