I'm trying to decide on what muffler I should put on my all stock 1983 6.9 ext.cab F-250. The stock muffler is pretty much shot and I really don't want to pay around 60 for a new one. I want it to sound as close to the stock as possible but as long as it doesn't sound like a boat like most dodges and doesn't rattle someones head off when you pass them I could deal with it. I've been contemplating a tractor muffler from tractor supply but I don't know if it would be that big of a sound difference between a 6.6L tractor to a 6.9L truck. Any thoughts on this or some different suggestions?
I've thought about that too, but, I've got a 2 and 1/2 inch thrush glasspack on my 1984 chevy 350 and it is a real noisemaker compared to the IDI, Would it sound different on a diesel?
my dads 88 has true duals on it that exit in front of the rear tires, each have a 22" 2.5" glasspack, and it has the sound under control. I was kinda shocked actually at how quiet it is.
I put a glasspack on the factory single exhaust on the '85, it is surprisingly quiet. The only time I get any popping from it is when I'm using the engine to keep me slow on a steep grade. And even then it's not much noise at all.
To be honest I have no muffler and a 3 inch out the side and its really quiet. I never hear the exhaust. But when my wife drives it it has a nice smooth sound. But that's me I guess. I'd get just some run of mill muffler 50$ and done.
Wonder how loud it would be if I unbolted the short extension pipe that goes from the back of the extended cab to the muffler that is just in front of the rear axle??
That's where mine comes out and like I said it has a low really smooth sound no popping or back pressure noise. Just a growl. It's pretty cool sounding
