Just bought my 03 f 250 w/6.0 diesel I have 1100 miles on it. Since he first time I started it on the lot it seemed as if it had the engine turned over a little longer than usual. (I previouly owned a 99 Dodge diesel & it seemed as if the starter hardly turned the engine before firing right off} I even asked the mechanic at the dealer> He said it was normal. Does anyone else seem to have this long cranking starting problem. Is it maybe normal for this engine?
I just bought an '03 F-250 as well. It also has about 1100 miles on it. Mine does turn over several times before starting. As far as this being a problem or not, I'm not sure. This is the first diesel powered truck for me, so I'm still learning.
Well maybe its supposed to be that way. Like I said the mechanic said that before I left the lot. I would like to go back & start several other trucks to satisfy my curiosity. Well, that is about my biggest complaint so far. I regularly haulheavy loads. Sod wieghs 2000 pounds per pallet & haul 1 pallet in the truck bed as well as 4 on my trailer My old Cummins diesel cant hold a candle to the power of the 6.0. Suspension not as stiff on my Ford. She squats a little more. Both my old Dodge & new Ford have the same options 3/4 ton 4x4 towing packae 8800# springs long bed. Someone needs to stick the new 6.0 & tranny in the Dodge body I would be a tough truck I think.
Just took a course about the 6.0L for ford techs. They are suppose to crank longer its just the nature of the beast. It uses a different system of fuel injection than the Duramax and the Cummins. It uses high pressure oil to fire the injectors unlike the GM and Dodge. It takes some cranking time to get the pressure built up. If you don't use the right oil it can cause problems with this also. It won't start any sooner the computer will not turn the injectors for a second or two after it starts cranking
Sounds like a god answer to me. I was planning on bringing it in to have it checked but figured I would wait. Also I have noticed others doing the same.
Thanks
Well I got one more problem I think. When pulling off with a load or on a steep hill I feel a shake like in the driveshaft or something only if I take off pretty fast . Has anyone experienced this. I dont feel it while driving usual. Anyone have the same? Got an answer?
Help me if you can.

I don't have the problem, but my dealer said there is a fix for cold engine hard-starting, it is in the OASIS system for your VIN if you check with the dealer.
