Need help with engine noise
I have a noise from the front of then engine that I can't identify. It sounds to me like a bearing in a pulley going bad, kind of a metallic sounding rattle. What's throwing me off is I don't hear it all of the time. Sometimes I can't hear it at all, its louder at sometimes than at others and sometimes I can hear it spinning down after I shut off the engine. I can't isolate or identify anything that makes it start or stop (hot, cold, A/C on/off, etc...)
Any ideas??

That sounds like the turbo and it's possible that the noise is being transmittd down the air filter making it sound like the front of the engine. Pull the air filter tube from the front of the turbo and check the impeller for slack or rubbing against the housing--it will have a tiny bit of slack. You may just be hearing the turbo spin down. they can be "noisy" normally.
