I have a 94 F150 that I am swapping the motor out to a 351 from a 95 F250. I diudn't think to get the fan shroud from the donor truck and there are options. I have the 2 row radiator. Is that the heavy duty cooling or standard? Can I use the Standard cooling shroud on the HD cooling or visa versa?
OK so forget the shroud and can anyone tell me what the difference was between Standard cooling and Heavey duty cooling? Is it just the 1 and 2 core rdiators? Or is there another I don't know about?
The heavy duty radiators are nominally ~2" thick while the standard units are only about 1". Remember, that is core thickness not tank thickness. Many radiators with 1" core will have the deeper/thicker tanks. Also note that the fan shroud for a 1" core radiator will be deeper [front to back] and vary a bit in how it mounts so if you swap in a 2" (read better cooling) unit not only will the shroud be too deep/long it also will not mount without modifications.
There is virtually no downside to converting to the higher capacity radiator for ANY application on these trucks. I would highly recommend the upgrade to anyone; if not now certainly upon replacement of a leaking or plugged radiator. Locate you shroud at your leisure so you will be ready when the time comes to replace your radiator!
