66F250CS Welcome to the club, hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

Taking the running of the lights out seems to relieve the pressure on the system.

I am intriged by the option to add a switch between the high-beam and headlight switches that allows both the low and high beams to be on together. Looks simple enough. Isn't this the way most modern cars operate? The brights alone are OK but sacrifice light out front for light in close. No specifics are available on that option other than the diagram at the bottom of the excellent write-up. Does anyone know if its just as simple as wiring a switch between the HB and HL switches? Would this need to be fused or is that already covered by the 20 AMP fuse between the relay and the battery?

You can't do that unless you have four separate housings and bulbs. In a single headlight the two filaments are so close together that they'll burn up if both are on. You also don't want much foreground lighting on high beams anyways, you want the light aimed far out where your eyes are focusing. A "hot spot" of light right in front of the truck will cause your eyes to have a hard time focusing farther out where you should be paying attention.

That makes perfect sense astronaut. Thanks for the advice. Was not actually relishing the prospect of chasing down wires under the dash to do this anyways Will leave well-enough alone.

Welcome! It doesn't make any since to have a blob of light 30-40 feet in front of you when you're running 60 mph, you're covering 88 feet per second- I don't think anyone's reaction time or brakes are that good!

Lights are pulsating on my 1966 F100

Hi All,
I am a new member having recently purchased a 1966 f100 flare side. I am experiencing a pulsating of the head lights and internal dashboard lights, not a flickering. I have had the alternator checked and the alternator and belts are in good order. In reviewing this thread, I see reference to an article and when I use the link, the link is not working. Can anyone provide a good link to the article? Any opinions on how I can resolve the issue?

Look forward to learning and sharing with this community,

Thank you much!

They talk of "Flickering" but what I think the first post was talking about is the head lights going out all together and being in the dark other than parking / tail lights staying on.
I would call this head lights cutting off and it is the hard light switch breaker tripping and resetting.

Your "pulsating of the head lights and internal dashboard lights" could be called flickering in my book.
I hang out in the 80 to 86 truck area and a user had the same issue as you and IIRC it was a ground issue.
You need a ground from battery to motor, motor to frame and motor to body / fire wall.
This is how the factory did it on the 80 - 86 trucks and I dont have any pulsating or flickering of lights.

I think people miss the body ground and think the cab bolts take care of it but forget the cab is mounted on rubber mounts.
Also the lights did not flicker / pulsate when new so something (grounds?) has gone bad over time.

edit I also could not open the link but I think after reading this thread it had to do with adding a head light relay kit.
It is plug n play no cutting of wires. I got my kits from LMC but you can get them just about anywhere try Ebay or Amazon
