I have narrowed and found two different trucks. The first is a 2010 F150 XLT Crew cab with the V8 5.4L/330 engine and has 48,000 miles. The second is a 2007 F250 super duty crew cab with the Diesel V8 6.0L/364 and has 92,000 miles. Both trucks are in good condition with clean car fax reports. Both trucks are 4WD.
I am looking for a truck for weekend projects and ocassional hauling. I want something that I can rely on for many years. I will probably put around 8-10k miles a year. I have a boat and trailer that weighs about 6,500 lbs. I currently leave the boat at the lake so I don't trailer back and forth. But I am thinking down the road I wont want to pay the docking fees so I will start to trailering back and forth. The drive is about an hour and fairly hilly terrain.
Which vehicle would you suggest I know the f150 can handle to load of the boat but I was thinking it is reaching the high on of the towing capacity for the truck and worry about stressing the transmission due to the hilly terrain of where I live.
Which truck would you trust to last the longest. This will not be my daily driver. The F150 costs about 4K more.
Any feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
The Stroker, no second thought for me. I know the 6.0 has had problems, but, for me, that's the one I'd get. My first choice would be a 7.3, if a nice one was found. I think it's more the platform, than the engine. The SD, you'll have a longer wheelbase, and more capacity than you'll need, for now at least.
Check my sig. I gave up my 7.3 SD for that. It's a very nice "car", and, with mods, I'm still not sold on it's capabilities. Ya, I likely should have done my homework a bit better, but I justified the smaller truck by convincing myself I didn't need to tow things like I used to, plus, the SD was starting to cost me some bucks, not all my own doing.
Sorry about the negative vote guys, it's the only time I've had to disagree with you two.
no worry's John. it was very difficult for me to say gas over diesel, and if it was a 7.3 i would have said diesel all the way.
but i also know that 6.0's don't like to sit. that is the only reason i said gas.
By the time the 2007 6.0L engines came to market, Ford had all the bugs worked out and they were good engines. I believe that 2007 was the last year for the 6.0 and the 6.4 came out in 2008.
