Diesel go kart so far...

https://picasaweb.google.com/1152005...eat=directlink

I started making this go kart like 4 years ago.
Probably about 30 hours of actual work put into it so far, lol.
Seems like usually a lot of liquor thinking happens instead of actual work.
The tubing is all 1/8" wall.
The engine is a 418 cc 1 cylinder diesel.
The transmission, diffs, t-case I picked up a few days ago for 500$.
The engine will connect to the transmission with belts to a jackshaft, then to the transmission with 60h chain and sprockets.

The gear reduction with the belts is 1.6: 1, meaning that at 3600 RPM, the unit could still reach 100 km/h. (60mph). I will buy the sprocket size for the transmission so that 5th gear at 3600 is about 70 km/h. Thats plenty fast as this is supposed to be just a cruising cart, not for racing or jumping.

As of right now, I plan on using shocks from a small car, and air bag springs, as it will barely fit out of the drinking shack ( i mean garage ) because it's tall.

The 3rd pulley on the engine sub-shaft is for a 104 amp alternator.

Plan is to buy mud tires for it in a month or so. Just street tires on it now. Even mud tires the same size should look awesome.

The frame is pretty strong, despite a major mistake. originally, I was going to make this like an articulating steering loader type steered unit, but I couldn't find the parts I needed at the time, so it turned into a conventional steering system half way through.
Anyways, I didn't think it looked really strong, but we used a giant steel beam under it with a jack, and 5000 lbs in the center only deflected just shy of 1/4" from the ends, so that seems pretty tough to me. Especially considering the frame only weighs a few hundred pounds. Lifting either end is not a big deal by hand, mind you the axles aren't attached yet, haha.

100% finished, I think it will weight about 800-1000 lbs.

Lots of work to do yet, but slowly she's comin.
