Carbs/need quick answer please

I can get an edelbrock 1406 600cfm and a hollie 4150 650cfm, 100.00 for both or 50.00 a piece. Both would most likely need a rebuilt. Was thinking about getting both then decide which would be better for my truck. So should I get the edelbrock, hollie, both or neither and just look for an edelbrock new/ in better shape. The edelbrock I'am use to, the hollie I wanted to get to play with. Thoughts

Ok forgot going on an 390fe with an edelbrock 390 performer intake, stock motor. Thanks!

I'd get them both also. See if you can con the guy in to giving you the fuel rail for that 4150 also.

I took an Edelbrock off my transplanted 460 to go outside the box and install a Autolite 4300. So I have the electric choke cap if you need it. My 1st choice for doing the "Ford on a Ford" thing would have been a 4100. But I couldn't resist the Lincoln 4300 I bought on Ebay for $25.00. Or if you want to keep it cable choke like I did my 4300, you can go to your local Checker,O'reilly,Pep boys etc and get a Dorman brand universal choke kit. Commomly seen with all the parts they display down the "HELP" isle. The Dorman and HELP part number is 55101. It comes with a cable which you don't need, cable bracket, choke cap, choke lever for carb.

Really don't mind manual choke and he did give me a cable to go with it. In Atlanta don't need it much anyway. Right now I'am just trying to learn/ID the holley. Was told it was a 4150 650 cfm just trying to make sure before I buy everything for set up. Here is the ad with pics.

Looks like I might have a 4160 600cfm and not a 4150 650. Ran the numbers on the front of the airhorn at holleys site it tells me it's a 4160 600cfm. Airhorn numbers 80427, underneath those numbers are numbers 1376.

http://1970mgr.org/_HolleyCarbs.htm

Looking at the pics mine looks almost exactly like the 600cfm. There is no metering block on the right of the carb making it a 4160. So pretty sure that's what it's. From info you guys give me I'am thinking the 4160 would be suited to my 390?

Are you sure 80427? Sometimes they didn't stamp them well. The pic you posted is a classic 4160. Vacuum seconary, fuel transfer tube, etc. But my Holley book says a 80427 is a 4150,700 CFM,double pumper with a secondary metering block, with all 4 bore diameters of 1 11/16" diameter.

Yea some how I made a mistake, cleaned it up and on the airhorn it has 80457 underneath 1376. Been looking at some pics and found an installion manual almost certain it is a 4160 600cfm. PO stated it is 4150 700cfm, guess that's how i can with the 80427 number.

Do you thing this model would be better for my application?

R80427 IS A MARINE CARB
80457 is a good carb ,600cfm square bore electric choke single inlet ,4160 comes with the ford kickdown linkage . it could have adjustable floats depending on how old it is .
google says use 37-119 kit
Holley 37-119 Holley Carburetor Rebuild Kits

Correct there Mikes 68 F100. It is all as you stated according to my Holley book. Including the externally adjusted floats. I can see them in the picture. And to make it even better, It is almost exactly the formula I replied a few days ago. It already has the #39 secondary plate. It has #64 jets where I said #65. To make up for that it has #31 accelerator pump nozzles where I stated #28. The only thing I have against it is if the PO did not change it already, it has a black spring in the secondary spring pot. That is the strongest one Holley makes. Which means your 390 will never open up the secondarys all the way. I stand by my reply a few days ago and say try the purple spring 1st. Along with the Holley numbers I gave you then, Holley #37-119 is in deed the "renew" kit. Or if you want some extra gaskets and tuning parts, #37-933 is the "trick" kit. YOUR 390 WILL LOVE THIS CARB. When you are ready let me know. I'll explain the best way to get that fuel transfer tube and it's "o"-rings installed.

Thanks for the replies! Jeffafa I will let you know when I rebuild, could be 2 to 3 weeks. Still have to finish doing my tilt steering column and get the headers and manifold on.

PO said it had been rebuild a couple years ago and never used. It does look clean outside, I might open it up tonight to see what the inside looks like.

Found this online and my carb does have the adjustable float.

Cool! Figure 16 on page 12 shows the spring I suggest trying a purple one 1st. If he rebuilt it he may have changed the jets or etc. While you are in there check the numbers on the jets and the secondarary metering plate to match my earlier reply. To check the accelerator pump nozzles you don't have to remove them. Open the choke flat and look down at the front center. You should see a big phiilips screw retaining the nozzle body. If it still has it's original #31 there will be small brass tubes (the actual nozzles) sticking out of it pointing to each primary throat. #28 and smaller were orifices in the nozzle body, no tubes. Note, most rebuild kit come with the two check ***** in a Holley. But just in case I'll tell you where they are so you don't loose them. One is bellow the accel pump nozzle body. in the same hole as it's phillips retaining screw. If your carb has a bolt there then under the nozzle will be a needle instead of the 1st ball. The second is in the 5th hole of the secondary spring pot. You'll see it once you remove the lid.

Thanks for the info. I will let you know what I find. Lost the little steel ball when I rebuilt my 2100, was concerned I might do the same thing with holley. Now I know what to look for, thanks!
