2 Ohm vs 4 Ohm

I was comparing the two different models of 2003 Rockford Fosgate 10" subs. The only difference between the two models is that one has an Impedence of 2 Ohms and the other has an impedence of 4 Ohms. First, what does this mean? Second, What difference does this make with performance, sound quality, etc. Thanks.

ok well ohms is a way to measure resistance of power. all the ohms really means is, it tells the amp how much power to send out and the lower the ohms the less resistance so the amp will push more power. there is no sound quality difference between 4 and 2 ohms. performance wise, the ohms have no affect on a sub-woofer except on telling an amp how much power to push like previously described.

The lower the Ohm load on the amp the more current it will push. Some amps are not rated to handle low ohm loads. Make sure if you plan on putting 2 or more of those 2 ohm subs in that they're wired in sterio or that you have a high current amp. 2, 2 ohm subs wired in parallel and run to a bridged 2 channel amp will cause the amp to "see" about 1/2 ohm. This will cause excessive heat in amps not rated for this low of a load.

The sterio shop you're buying them from should tell you which to get based on your application. If they don't go to another shop.
