Dash pieces

Hey guys!

It's been a few years since I've been around here but some of you may remember me from once upon a time ago. I'm back on my F-150 restoration project and I need some quick advice. I found a guy parting out an F-150 with the same interior as mine and I'm looking to steal some of this pieces to replace the broken pieces I have by tomorrow. They seem in good shape, only problem is I've only taken the back of the interior apart, never the dash related pieces (except the gauge cluster).

I'm looking to take his whole dash, because mine has a main mounting support tab on the passanger side door jam area that's busted off. It also has the infamous crack in the rather soft(er) area of the top of the dash infront of the passanger.

So my questions are what are some tips for removing the dash without busting stuff, and is that softer piece that's in front of the passanger (like where an air bag would be) that seems as though it's attached to the main frame of the dash, is it separable? If so, how does that come off?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't seen you post on here in a long time. Still have that green truck? Got any pics of it now?

Repairing that tab on the passenger side is not that dificult to do. Ford used to offer a repair kit. Sometime around 96 Ford started putting the improved bracket on all the trucks from what I understand.

The soft pad on the passenger side is a seperate piece.

Here is some theads about it.

Yeah it's been about 4-5 years since I've been active here. I ended up getting deep into the engine and was on other websites for deeper information, etc. I have returned to working on the body and chassis. I still have the green truck, it's the one I'm (still)restoring. I've been struggling with getting the 393 stroker engine to run properly. Lots of time and funding issues as well, ha. Right now the bed is off of it, I redid the cab corners and patched some rusted areas. Soon I am going to put the bed back on and finish redoing the wheel arches. While I'm doing that, the trans and engine need some work so they'll be pulled and repaired. Then hopefully by the end of this summer I'll have the truck in working order. I'd like to be able to use it this winter and finally get some return on my investment.

Thanks for the links! I'll check them out.

Wow this seems a bit more involved than I thought.

If I can replace that padded area in front of the passanger w/o doing the whole dash I might just do that instead. I might be able to repair the broken tab with some epoxy w/o taking the whole dash out. I didn't want to do that, but it seems a lot better than the time/effort taking that dash out twice.

Thanks for the advice!

I've got a couple small panels that need replacing so I'll stick to the easier stuff! ha

The links didn't work for me but I was able to recover the text by using the 'quote' option...Lets try it this way..

Just copy/paste the address w/o the 'url' at the beginning.
Thanks for the advice!

The links work for me, not sure why its different.

You can make your own dash support repair bracket out of a generic L bracket from the hardware store and attach it with pop rivets.

Its a common issue.

The dash pad is replaceable, you need to drop the glove box and pull the radio to access the nuts (10mm I think). I have found them on ebay (uhaul site)

PS Welcome Back
