Error Code 67 - Beyond Me!

Well I am back to report that I still have error code 67 haunting me. Last time I was down to using a breakout box and checking different things on the processor. First things first do all 1985 F250's have a neutral switch? I have looked everywhere for this switch and it does not exist and there are on wires going down to the tranny other than the backup lights wiring. If this was never hooked up would the truck still run? Doesn't seem like it should but my truck begs to differ from the norm. Does anyone have a exploded view of the parts list that might show where it is actually suppose to be located? I have a Borg-Warner transmission (4 speed). Any help on helping me locate the specific area for my model truck is appreciated.

On a slightly different note the second step on the breakout box test for the neutral switch operation wants you to measure the resistance across the harness plug. Can't check this out either....

I thought the nuetral switch was for automatics? Is it possible that switch is combined with the backup/start switch? Does your reverse light work lol?

The evtm for 84 suggests that switch is part of the backup/start switch. It also suggests it is part of the automatic transmission.

The backup switch in on top of the transmission on left side.

Again, the 84 manual suggest this but I dont know. It only has trouble shooting for the reverse lights and not the neutral switch.

He has a manual tranny. Ford did use a neutral switch on some of their trannies, but I am not sure he is supposed to have one.

When it's all said and done, the computer is just looking for a certain voltage or contact closure on a certain pin on your breakout box. If you read the Ford troubleshooting procedure about 20 times, you might be able to decipher what the pin is really looking for(either a ground or a voltage). Once you do this, you should be able to put a jumper or something on that pin to simulate the proper input, and see if the code goes away. This would be the first step to take now you have gone through everything else.

All this thing is supposed too do is change the idle strategy if you are in gear or not. I do not think it's that important if you want to just drive it and forget about it.

Code 67 horror

Well Dave I just got a breakout box. I did as you said and have read it more than 20 times, and still don't know which pin it is trying to get either high or at ground. This has been one bad omen after the next. I also, think your right and my truck does not have a neutral switch. Backup lights work fine on it since this was mentioned in a thread as well.

Ford sometimes used a jumper on MT vehicles in the neutral safety location to bypass it. What engine do you have and is it EFI or FBC? The systems are completely different. Just looked at your profile, says EFI 302. Someone may have the wrong EEC in it, in which case it could be looking for the neutral safety switch.

Yes I have a 302 EFI engine. You know you brought up a good point I have no idea which eec this truck is suppose to have in it. When I look on ebay there seems to be a lot of different ones available. Wonder how I might find out the correct part number for one without a neutral switch? I don't have the parts list for this 1985 truck, I do have all the service manuals but I don't see a breakdown or specific reference to the different eec's. Any guidance would be helpful.

To find what Ford installed, you need the Calibration Code.

Do you have any of these stickers on your engine? Likely on the passenger side valve cover, at the front by the water pump?

Thanks Ctubutis;
I will snoop around for that label in the morning. Sure hope no one got to the engine with a power washer before I got it!
