I have a 98 sport 4.0 i bought awhile back and its been running rough.. When driving it seems to cut out.. I had it scanned and it has code PO453 which is pressure sensor.. I was told they replaced the fuel pump when i got it.. After driving and i get out i can smell gas on the drivers side.. I replaced the gas cap but no change.. I was just wondering if anyone has had this code and what i should start with first.. Thanks in advance!!

Sensor Circuit High Voltage

1. Check the vacuum lines of the FTP sensor for mis-routing, leakage, breakage, and clogging.
Are the vacuum lines OK?
YES - Go to step 2.
NO - Repair or replace vacuum lines as necessary.
2. Reset the PCM.
3. Remove the fuel fill cap.
4. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
5. Monitor FTP sensor voltage with the HDS, or measure voltage between body ground and PCM connector terminal A29.
Is there about 2.5 V?
YES - Intermittent failure, systemis OK at this time.
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the FTP sensor and the PCM.
NO - Go to step 6.
6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
7. Reinstall the fuel fill cap.
8. Disconnect the FTP sensor 3P connector.
9. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
10. Measure voltage between FTP sensor 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.
Is there about 5 V?
YES - Go to step 11.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the FTP sensor and the PCM .
11. Measure voltage between FTP sensor 3P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 3.
Is there about 5 V?
YES - Replace the FTP sensor.
NO - Go to step 12.
12. Measure voltage between PCM connector terminals .
Is there about 5 V?
YES - Repair open in the wire between the FTP sensor and the PCM .
NO - Substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. If normal voltage is indicated, replace the original PCM.

Im thinking maybe a vacuum leak somewhere by the fuel tank since i have the smell of gas after driving it

 

Check the filler neck behind the body panel. Mine rusted away. Replaced. No more probs.
