auto hubs

My auto hubs generally work ok. I need to replace the spring between the bearing housing and locking gear. I believe the Spring has just got weak over time. It goes into 4 wheel ok just doesnt go back out to 2 wheel.. I've taken those apart several times and cleaned them and re-greased them but still have a hard time with them going back into 2 wheel from 4 wheel.

I know everybody says switch to aftermarket hubs but would like to try this first. anybody ever have a luck finding hodge podge parts to work. especially since I believe I just need a spring.
