I'm kinda curious to see what your trucks (figured I better clarify "truck" and not leave that word out, I know how some think on here..) rear end temp runs at.

Good thing you made that clear Darin. I know what you mean about how some people think on here ( not me of course)

just ran it about 10 miles empty, rear axle temp wouldn't move the needle, gauge starts at 100. trans was 140
rear axle running synthetic mobil 1 75w90
transmission is running amsoil syncromesh.
ok back to the project! just pulled injectors and hpop out of my spare truck. hpop going to tymar for core for t500 injectors going to rosewood for stage 1. need to order e99 clamp for spider and get cac pipes hooked up.
getting a load of hay from Colorado at the end of the month so I will see how it does
I'd be surprised if your rear axle temps change much under load. It'll be interesting see though when you load up and start pulling those mountains. I've often wondered about the manual trans getting too hot (since the 6spd had the aux. cooler).

I haven't seen the rear axle temp move the needle yet, but I also haven't done any long runs towing. the trans I have seen 250 with a moderate load from Phoenix to Prescott.
injectors on their way to rosewood, hpop on it's way to terminator. thinking about swamps 140 mod for my spare idm! going to Colorado the end of the month for hay so hopefully all the parts are back and I can see what the truck does with 30,000+ lbs and the upgrades

That's mighty warm transmission temps! I would like to see if those coolers you can put in place of the PTO covers would drop that temp at all. You used to be able to get those from Bob, but he doesn't carry them anymore. It makes me wonder what my ZF6 is doing even with it having a cooler

I might be looking for a way to cool it after this next trip! 400 miles 8% grades and over 30,000 lbs I cringe to think how hot it is getting! never bothered me before because I didn't know.
If you do start looking for a way to cool it, look up "Fast Coolers" and/or Fabcraft Metalworks for coolers that bolt in place of the PTO covers. That will give you more fluid and a little bit more surface area to cool it off.
Something that I've actually wondered how well it would work and how reliable it would be.. Pull the drain plug and install a 90* fitting in it's place run a line over to a Weldon circulating pump. Pump the fluid up to an air to air cooler behind the grill or even a small cooler with a fan under the cab, then return the oil back into the fill plug. Wire in a thermo switch so the pump doesn't come on until the trans is up to temp. I saw this suggestion made by Patrick Feeley some years ago and was always curious at how well it would work, but I never had the need to try it on my truck. It would be interesting and should cool the trans down quite a bit with the right cooler.
got the T500 installed last night, had to go to Prescott to get some building supplies today and i swear there is better throttle response and I get boost a lot quicker.
injectors came today but I am beat so not gong to do them tonight. Daughters graduation tomorrow, working on the house Sat. Sun. Mon. Tues. and wed. so I might get them in Thursday and than we go to Colorado Saturday to get hay.

I've noticed the same thing on several different trucks. The stock pump probably wasn't building pressure as quickly as the T500 is now at low RPMs. That's what the deal was on the couple trucks I datalogged before and after.
