My question is about the transmission. When I go to take off( the truck is in gear) sometimes it will just act like it is in neutral(just revs up) and then all of a sudden it will like slam into gear. It never does this when driving just when I'm taking off and it doesnt do it every time either. It is an automatic tranny. The truck is a 91 F150 with a 302, 4X2 and about 91,000 miles. Any ideas as to what this may be? Thanks for any help
When was the last time you changed the fluid? 30,000 miles seems to be the usual life of ATF. Also, check the level - if you're getting low line pressure, then that might explain why it's giving you trouble.
I've seen this a couple of times, but I'm not a transmission expert. Somebody else here might be able to give you a better answer.
Either way, check and/or change the ATF. If you need to rebuild it, it's going to cost you, so you might as well try to replace the worn out ATF first.
oh yeah I forgot, the tranny fluid was changed like a month ago and its at the correct level. The place that changed it also put some kind of conditioner or something in there with it. The problem actually started right after it came back from the transmission shop.
Get it reflushed & put str8 ATF... with no conditioner & see if teh problem goes away....
Had that problem with my explorer tranny .... the shift solenoid was causing it .... I had it rebuilt & found out that my bans were slit in half... ... I have no idea though how computerized they are (trannys) for a 91 F150's... just a thought.
