I am in the market to buy a new truck. I was interested in the F250 SD with the 6.0 diesel. I have been reading through here and now I am thinking I better go with the Silverado. Have they really been having allot of problems with this diesel engine.

Yes, for 20-25% of the new owners. Later production runs seem to be better, and Ford seems to be sweating over the early problems. Test drive both, and I'm sure you'll have no trouble deciding.

Are you saying that the ones on the lot now have had the problems fixed or are you saying I should go with the Silverado.

Supposedly the newer 6.0Ls are fixed...but for some reason every single day someone new comes in here complaining about what junk their new 6.0L is. So personally, I'd be skeptical about putting down 40K for one if I were you.

For God's sake...don't buy a Silverado. That would be even worse. Heat-operated diesel power + aluminum = problems down the road. Plus GM's overall build quality sucks as we all know. If I were you, and needed a diesel pickup this year, I'd buy a Dodge with the Cummins H.O. engine and 6-speed manual tranny. I promise you'll fall in love with it and you won't be able to break it if you try (we have tried).

After 5000 miles I had to get my F-350 crew cab dually 6.0 w/6 sp. manual Fx4 reflashed. The only reason I even knew about the reflash was because I realized my fuel economy was very very bad, around 6 to 8 mpg. (Always hooked up to a trailer) I was enjoying my new truck so much that I hadn't even realized the mpg sucked until my wife started adding up the dollars and miles we had been through. I think that if you want to see alot of negative comments or find out what problems "some" people are having, this is the place to look. Most people who are not having problems are too busy enjoying there new 6.0's to come here. You have to look at the whole picture, All brands have their bad things about them.

Hello DCOLE. FORD,CHEVY,DODGE..my controversial but true opinion is all three MAKE GREAT TRUCKS! OK I have never had a Dodge truck but many friends and acquaintances have and swear by them. I had an 02 6ltr gas Chev H.D crew 4x4 and it had zero warranty issues in the admitedly short 35000 miles that I had it. Of all the Ford and Chevy trucks that I have owned I always get more attached to my Fords. Remember that the super duty Fords are quite large inside and that Chevy and Dodge more resemble the ford F150 inside dimensions. My new S.D. 6.0 is an awsome power/tranny combo-way ahead of my 99 7.3 ltr although that was a fine ride too. Ford is working out their new product quirks and if you drive one you will be hard pressed to find fault. Good luck-buy the one one that best satisfies your own hard earned dollars.
