Fuel Gauge 97 F53 Flair

Three years ago while on the road the fuel gauge dropped from full to nearly empty over a few minutes. No fuel leaks, engine kept running fine. The opinion of most people was a bad float or sending unit. Lived with problem till a week ago and replaced entire assembly in tank with an OEM replacement. Same reading on gauge. Found a video on youtube about a Taurus with similar problems. Owner insulate three left contact and shorted two right contacts on anti slosh module. Plugged module in & dash guage worked, though it was erratic if the car was rocked. I did this on my module with similar results. Reading is more stable, 75 gallon tank may help. Bought a used replacement module, same almost empty reading. Now the question. Can these modules be tested and repaired? Can't find a new one.

Thanks,
Mike

When you short the two right contacts you made the gauge system like the ones on the F150-350 trucks.

You may need to go to a salvage yard to get one out of any E-series van from 1992-1996.

For others that may know what we are talking about:

Thanks,
Bought a used one it does the same as the one from my vehicle. Thought there might be a way to test them, to insure the replacement is good.

Not sure how you would go about testing it unless you stuck it in another cluster.

You could try replacing the chip and the cap I guess. I do not see much on the board that could go bad.

Here is a source for the board from a June 2008 posting:

fuel gage anti slosh module
Hi All

I am getting a few calls about that infamous module for the fuel gage on the 90-95mustang.
The part number is E9SZ-10E849-A and has a list price (today) of $85.32 and a FFCARS cost of $63.99 plus shipping. I titled this post so a search would help find it fast. I normally stock this part.
