I installed my DP Tuner for the towing tunes and I am really happy with it. I tow about 11.500 lb toy hauler. I have 40HP and 60HP Tune Decel and 60HP Economy... But what I am trying to find out, what is the real difference between 20,40, 60 and 80HP tow tune? What is the Tuner doing or not doing in 20 HP tow vs. 80HP tow tune? I like the shifting in the new tunes especially for towing. Will the DP lock up the Torque Converter more often in tunes vs stock?
The fueling strategies are different between all of those tunes as well as the transmission strategies. We label our tow tunes for the recommended towing weight as a safety measure. The fueling in 20T is much different than the fueling in 80T. The main reason is to keep everything in check temperature and pressure wise. What I mean is you would not want to add a lot of fuel while towing a ton of weight. The more weight the truck has to pull, the harder the engine has to work. When you start letting the engine work too hard with more fuel, your EGT's will rise. The transmission pressures are also changed between tunes to help better compensate for the load. Beyond fueling and transmission pressures, the tunes are pretty much the same in every other aspect.

With DP, I'm wondering if I can get away with that, or if the tune will deliver better shifting with full pedal travel - in other words - maybe it will not shift down as much/lug more if I am not using the last 1/4 to 1/8 of pedal travel.
I'll be trying 40T and 80T out in a couple of weeks with the camper - we'll see what it does.
Our tow tunes should enable you to drive normally without needing to regulate your temperature. They will have power throughout the entire travel of the pedal and are designed to keep you in gear longer without down/up shifting so much.

The 80T would help with EGT when on grades compared to 80E for sure. However, with that amount of weight you should be using the 40T tune. You can use whichever tune you would like, but that is the recommended tune for that weight as far as safety goes.

My point was that the tune might not downshift when it needs to, if it looks at the TPS as part of the input as to when to shift, since it would not be seeing the last 1/4 pedal. I do like that the tunes allow me to stay in gear longer - great power!

The truck will still downshift when/if it needs to. The PCM can sense load before the pedal gets to that point.
When I first ran our tunes years ago(before I worked for DP), my favorite thing was the tow tunes. It made towing so much easier on me and I always felt as if I never had a trailer behind me.
Hello Justin! Thanks for the info on the 80T. When I pull a hard grade like here in the mtns I do run in the 40T. But when I get in GA or flatter land I have been running in 60T . I tried running with the 80E but on long not real steep grades the temp started to climb. But down in Fl I ran 80E and boy she was a hoss! I would be almost tempted to swap out the 60T for 80T and that would really cover my bases! I like to run the tow setting in town because of the firmer shift program. Whats yer opinion?
