Offroad? Did your PCM throw a code? My problem is that there is no "Service Engine" light, but , Yes, I also think it's a coil. In another thread i asked about the K&N and have since found out that it wasn't that. Will keep you all posted.
no it did not trrow a code. it will be picked up in the self test though. i told the dealer that there was no code and to find it in the self test and he said that is where they would find it. this dealer sells light medium and heavy ford trucks only. no cars so they have extensive diesle and v 10 experience.
my son was having surgury that night and when i called the dealer at 8 pm and told them what was happening they told me to come right over and they fixed it with no appointment. was out in an hour and half.
My '99 started missing a couple days ago, just out of the blue. One minute it was running fine, then I shut it down, and when I got back and fired it up, bam, it was running on 8 or 9 cylinders. No service engine light either. Took it to the dealership yesterday, and they put it on the computer, the injectors and coils tested okay, but you could see that several of the cylinders were intermittently firing. Tech changed all 10 plugs, and all ten of the rubber boots that go on the bottom of the coils, and that fixed the problem. Picked it up this morning, and by the time I got home, the truck would barely idle. It loped so bad the truck would rock from side to side while in gear, and when you kicked it up in neutral, it woulud rev up to around 3 grand for about 20 seconds, then settle into a terribly rough idle. The PCM finally threw a code and the engine light came on on the way back to the shop. the tech found the TB to PCV vacuum line to be rotted and cracked open, allowing the motor to suck air. He changed that line, and all is now well with the world. If you are still having problems you might check on those rubber coil boots though.
Thanks for the info. Been gone for a couple of weeks and going to change the boots as soon as I can. Even though the warranty has ran out they said they would still honor it under that same Work Order (Service Order). Thanks for all the input and will keep you posted.
BTW - they did find the EGR bad and replace it, but no help.
