tow rating discrepancy

causing your T/C to unlock

this statement is not true turning your od off does not affect the tourque converter locking at all, it just stops the trans from shifting into od.
you can use the overdrive but this will heat up the fluid in the torque converter and tend to make the converter swell which is not a good thing.a swelling converter could burst at its weld and you would be stranded, it could also blow out the front seal of the trans. turning off od will prevent this from happening by sending more fluid through the cooler {the engiine is spinning faster therefore more trans fluid is pumped}. yes you do need to stop the load so you must be carefull.

i would tow with od off unless i was on a long flat surface where the load would be easier to pull.

hey if you are worried about the rear end replace the ring and pinion it will be cheaper than a rebuild for the trans.
