Bad jumping down the highway, need help...

In the past month ive noticed that very sporadically my check engine light would pop on. When it does, the truck seems to jump, thats the best i can describe it but it has lost power significantly. It used to jump only on the highway but recently it will do it on the street. When i stop and get going again it really has trouble and just keeps jumping until it gets going. The kicker is that when i shut the truck off, the check engine light goes off and it wont have a problem till the next random time, and i do not know what to do. Only things i thought that could be the issue were injectors?injector pump? cam sensor?

If you don't have a way to get the code, a cam sensor from ford or IH would be a good starting point. You should always have a spare with you anyway. BTW, there is no injection pump on these.

what does it take to put a cam sensor on and how costly would it be? Also, should i just get a generic one or is there a kind of high quality these IH diesels should have?

Only a ford or IH cam sensor, parts store ones are hit and miss at best. They're only about 25 bucks. It's at about the 10 oclock position above the balancer on the front of the motor. 10mm wrench. Not a hard job unless the bolt/area is a rusted mess.

Hopefully it will. It's just that over the years, a lot of peoples experience, shows what works best. That's not to say that others never work, but IH and Ford OEM are the most reliable on average out there.

Good to hear. If I were you I'd put the IH one in when you get it and keep your other new one as a spare.

ok well i took it out on the highway today and its way better, BUT there is still a small hiccup in it once i run over 70mph... maybe thats the quality of the generic sensor? at this point im not sure if there is another contributing factor as well.

It very well could be the parts store sensor causing your smaller problem. They are not all the same. The one you got ordered is the good one, but if you would have went to ford or IH you could have had the same one for half that cost.
