low coil voltage ??

low coil voltage ??

ok put a rearend in a running driving 78 bronco well took a few months to get a rearend know it wont start got fully charged battery new solinoid dont see anything else sticking out but only have 7.4 volts coming in and not getting spark anyone have any issues like this just looked at schematic and will check i a bit to see any help may be avail ty in advance robert

You should have as close to battery voltage at the coil as possible. Anything less than about +11.5 VDC isn't going to put enough into the coil for it to provide enough output. Disconnect the coil. Keep the coil terminals in the harness isolated (don't let them touch anything else or each other). Turn the key on and take your voltage reading at the harness terminals. If the voltage is close to the same reading you get at the battery, the coil is suspect and should be replaced. If the voltage is still low check harness connection between the coil and the start solenoid on the fender and the coil and the negative (ground) where it attaches to the truck body/frame.

yep i knew that i should have battery voltage at the coil i dont but this thing is copled up i had a wire on the coil that was in bad shape im pretty sure was the problem i havent been over to check it yet i went ahead and spliced a bit of wire in to it and figure i need to double check ground also ty greystreak

Yep. Only reason I suggest disconnecting the coil is that sometimes a shorted coil can pull votlage readings down if you leave it connected. If you just check the harness terminals without the coil the reading isn't affected

yea i found that out. got 12 v at the coil but still no spark ground seems good been a while sense i done this much chasing hahaha but its been sitting for 6 months thanks again

ok insulation was tore off one of the wires to the stator and wasted it battery was actually bad starter had lugnuts to space the bolts and were only finger tight got all that fixed so everyone knows it was a mess still has a chevy alt on it waiting for him to get a correct one for the bronco oh also the ignition switch was broken also
