I removed the rear radio controller from the back of the console and installed a power inverter in its place. It fit great and everything went smoothly. I should have known it was too easy... I now have no sound coming out of the rear speakers. I assume there is a way to jump the wires to allow the speakers to work, but I'd need a wiring diagram. Right now I have the controller hooked up and buried in the console, which I guess is fine. It's just annoying.
you mean them speakers wont work with it disconnected? whys that?
There's a switch on the rear controller to turn off the back speakers-- I guess if you are using headphones to listen to something different than the front passengers.
I removed mine like you did, but didn't realize the rear speakers wouldn't work. I had given my rear controller away and then realized I had no back speakers.
I did this in its place to run an external DVD player. I could hook up a game console if I wanted to.
You can try doing what I did. That AV outlet I installed is actually the same size as an electrical outlet. I installed a plastic electrical box to hold the AV outlet. You can install a 120V AC wall outlet instead.
For the wiring, you can get a standard outlet cord and cut it. Plug the cord into your power inverter and wire the loose ends into the wall electrical socket like you do when you wire one in your house. The wires to the outlet is protected in the plastic electrical box.
You can also see on the plug which wires I jumped to get the rear speakers back up.
I just realized your power inverter has USB outlets, too. You can get the standard wall outlets now with USB outlets, too. They have ones that has 2 USB.
I was scared when I tried jumping the speaker wires as well. What I did was I used my mp3 player with headphone jack plugged in with bare wire ends. With the Excursion powered off, I tapped the speaker wires from the diagram until I heard music coming out of the speaker. That was when I knew which wire I had to cut.
