what trans will mate to a 390
I have an 89 bronco with an aod trans and I was wondering if a 390 will mate to it, or do I have to get a new transmission? If so what trans do you guys suggest. It would have to be able to mate to my transfer case. I have a b-w 1356 shifty on the fly transfer case. Any help is greatly apprieciated.

You'll wanna get a C6 from a truck with an FE. If you want manual, someone else can help, their not my specialty. I believe Jegs sells TCI street trannies, if you wanna go that route, or any good junkyard should have one. A 390 would be kinda cool in a 89 bronco, IMO. Cant help ya on the 4x4 transfer case. Let us know how it goes!

yeah, I didn't mean to imply that the adapter was $2K, but after you get an A0D, get it built up some to handle the power of an FE you'll probbaly spend about $2K.
Of course, I'm just speculating. CACWBY would have a better idea of the real cost.
By the way, CACBWY, what did you use for a steering column, is it labled for the OD or I guess that is just D ???

GTEX - we were concerned about trying to make my column shift adapt and espec. with the tightness of the new AOD so went with Lokar shifter and their cable is reqd anyway so that part was e-z. Then found a column from a floor shifter '67 in local yard.
The lokar doesn't have a seperate indicator yet for AOD, just marked on handle (mine is 16" )and is very comfortable. It also alows pull down into second for engine braking.

This is a Lentech prepared AOD, it has a different valve body (which you can buy seperately) and I'm telling you I can pull it into second, I just got back from an evening drive and I did it several times. It also has an electric OD Delete (or On-Off switch), so you can prevent it it from shifting to OD (4th) if you want max. drag racing performance. And I dig my Lokar shifter, it's too bad they don't make the boot with the trick gear selector like they do for other trannies (i.e. Chebby ones). And I have 3 choices, 1, 2, 3(D), the OD (4th) is only available - No #1, if switch is on, and then after 55-60 it will shift into OD. And will shift out when below 40 or so, it's all controlled with TV (throttle valve) cable (another Lokar item).
