I have the same problem on my 2000 f350 superduty dually i just got today for $5000 ....i cant figure out why i have no 4x4 and i did try locking the hubs too, i have no idea
If the light on the dash isn't coming on, your transfer case is probably not shifting. Find the relays and switch them. if it goes into 4wd but won't come out, then you know you need new relays.
there are 2 relays under the hood on the drivers side by the firewall, check those. one of them goes from 2wd to 4l and the other runs the motor on the tcase from 4l to 2wd. with it not working all together Id check out the 2 wires to the transfer case motor and check the plug that senses the position of the transfer case.
I have the same problem with my truck and it's because the clip on tcase motor lets the plug slide loose a little bit
Well snow is coming so i took a look at it tonight and found the wires going to the activators on the transfer case were broken so i repaired 4 of them i guess the salt took them out last year thanks again
