New exhaust.
I have no muffler on my 94 with a 302. that thing sounds really good when the engine is still cold. It has a mean bark to it when I'm pulling a 16 foot flatbed. Go for it. It makes your ride seem like somethign when you can hear the exhaust. Just my opinion though.

wondering if no muffler is better? is this bad for my 302 engine/o2 sensors in the long run with no backpressure? i'd like to keep stock cats and pipe. can i just remove the muffler and put in a pipe and put a larger tip on? i do want a good deep sound too. or would it be better to replace the stock muffler with a fm orig40's si/so? any opinions would be appreciated! Thanks!

When I first got my truck and was broke, I simply sawed off the muffler and ran open catalytic converter. The thing was pretty dan loud, and ran great. Granted I damaged my cat sawing it off, so I next had it repaired and installed a pipe coming out in front front of the right rear tire. Sounded nice like that too. Course next I had that enormous catalytic converter removed, and a tiny high-flow one that looks like it belondgs on a Honda installed, and then a glasspack, and then dual tips out the back. Now it sounds fantastic, but of course still not enough. So next I'm getting rid of the glasspack and running straight pipes out the back from the high flow cat. One day when the truck is no longer my daily driver I'll be doing headers and full exhaust.
