Hey. Well I am looking at getting a 1991 f150 truck. The other day we looked at it and the dash lights, and the radio didn't work. Then we tried the turn signals and they didn't work, but when we stepped on the breaks the lights worked and backing up they worked. Anyone know what it could be.
Wow,16 and your first vehicle,I remember those days,I hardly knew diddly squat.
Maybe your Dad,an Uncle or older cousin or a neighbor can help mentor you in some basic mechanical trouble shooting and repairs.
Heck, there may even be FTE members near you who'd be glad to give you advise and lend you a hand.
Don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't know something, but pay close attention when someone's helping you.The only dumb question is the one you don't ask,NOBODY knows everything, but there's a lot of good people here whose combined knowledge and experience and friendliness helps a whole lot of others here.
As for your dash lights, did you try pulling out the **** to turn on the headlights and turning the ****? Turning it to the left,counter-clockwise, dims the dash lights and to the right, clockwise, brightens them.Someone may have turned them all the way down.
I believe the headlight **** in your truck also turns on and off the dome light.
If the owners manual is still in the truck it has lots of good info such as the location of the fuse boxes, and even pictures telling you which fuses are for what.If it's there read through the whole thing,Ford built the truck and wrote the book so they know what they're talking about and they wrote the book so you can learn much of what you'll need to know about the truck for it's general day to day operation and to keep it properly maintained and safe to drive.
Thanks 2003EXPY. I will ask you guys questions. I would ask my dad but he has a 1979 F150 and he is rebuilding and refurbishing the inside and said he didn't want another project. But he will help. but thanks.
What do you do to the flashers, just replace them. And i don't know a lot cause i am only 16, and this is my first vehicle so sorry.
Yup. They're only a couple bucks each. They are a round silver housing. Also, you can pull the fuses and look to see if they are blown. Just remember what place you pulled it from.
Do some searches on here. Tons of info to learn from.
