Well I just got my exp, and it came with only one key, and one remote. I called ford, and they said my car has to go into service in order to cut a new key. Why the hell would the need to have the car in service? What a joke.

Arrow Keys

Unfortunately, the Expedition keys have a little RF reciever microchip inside of them, to keep people from stealing it. If you have a regular key cut at Home Depot, it'll unlock the doors, but the engine won't crank.

I think on the 97-98 Expys, you could program the key at home, and all you had to do was go to the dealership to buy the key blank (somebody else probably knows more about this than I do). On the 99-03s, though, you have to go to the dealer. Costs about $50 I think.

Good luck!

If I'm not mistaken, I read here somewhere that for newer models, a second key has to be program at dealership. For additional keys after the second one, youcan program yourself (there are instructions in the manual). I think it has something to do with the computer knowing how many key in memory.
You can get additional keys and remotes on e-bay, cheap.

Later!

Call your local locksmith, If they have the machine they could do it for less with no fuss.

I charge 35.00 for the programing and 38.00 for the key, your out the door in 15 minutes.

On our '99 you need two working keys to make a third or fourth. Out of advice from this site I purchased two Expy keys for $19.99 off of Ebay and programmed myself. Key cutting can be done by any key shop.

Speaking of keys, does anyone else have to line their key up perfectly in the ignition for it to go in? I have to screw around with mine for 15 or 20 seconds to get it to go in.

The Plastic ears on the ignition must be turned a little. Try popping the ears off and reinstall . Those ignition are alway going bad. We must replace 8-10 a month.

If you have a 97-98, you can do it with one working key, if not you need two working ones. You can get blank keys on Ebay for $10-20 bucks, they have a little transponder (chip) inside them that works with the vehicles security system, and must be programmed to the vehicle. If you have a 97-98, email me, and I will send you the instructions.

When I bought mine, all it came with was one key and one remote. I got another remote of ebay for about $12 and progamed the two myself with instructions I found on the internet.

For the keys, I had to go to a dealer for reprogramming. The cost was about $80 for the reprogramming and $20 for each key. I thought this was a major rip off. There was nothing I could do. Everything I read said you needed two keys to program more.

I'm not very good at keeping records of websites. However, most of the information I got off this forum. Try these:

ford-trucks.com/dcforum/expedition/143.html and

ford-trucks.com/dcforum/expedition/1062.html

Or just type the search words into a search engine and see what comes up. The key programing procedure is from the owners manual. Mine did not come with a manual but I found one on the web. Will email to you if you like. Can't print it though because its about 250 pages.
