The Laws of Average and the Regin Cycle

I don't know what it is about my driving habits but today I took a little road trip maybe about 120 miles round trip. I get about 1/4 mile from my home and the truck goes into regin. I hate that, and it seems to happen that way a lot.

Oh well hope it doesn't hurt anything.

Tim in that 1/4 mile by watching ur cts your temps prolly aint started to come up yet. It takes awhile but some fuel has been dumped into dpf. So watch the next time before regen restarts. You will prolly see your soot count go down some. Its one of them things I just dont worry about anymore.

And the problem is?

Your passive regens start and stop constantly everytime you get EGTs over 572°. Your EGTs might be that hot for a 20 mile climb up a 7% grade or it might be for 10 seconds as you accelerate away from a stop light. The DPF doesn't seem to care about how many start/stops cycles it goes through or how long it runs. It just does it's job when the heat is hot enough to burn off the soot.

If it starts a 1/4 mile from your home and doesn't finish, It will just start again when you hit the soot % threshold again.

You're right, they weren't very high just above 600° when I got in the driveway.

No problem, LOL Just kind of ironic that it has happened quite a few times already. Like Paul said, just one of those things.

So probably it went down on soot before it started the regen process all over. i can be say at 1.80 on soot count and have to just move truck around in yard a few times. the next time i drive it the soot will drop considerable because of the cold start up fuel that is dumped into cold def. watch it sometime. id make a video but i aint got a clue on posting it plus i dont use u tube. other than watch other folks neat stuff

Used to happen to me all the time, seems the drive home from work is the perfect distance for regens to start just before I got home. If it happens too many times you will get a "drive to clean" message, I got one a long time ago.

My DPF regen is more accurate as to where I am in relation to my home than my GPS.

This regen a few miles from home after a day on the highway happens all of the time.
Commanding would be great and it could have run on the highway instead of pulling into my driveway with EGT1 at 600° and EGT4 at 1,100°.
