I have a 67 f100. I blew up my 400 cam rod pushrods the whole nine and cracked both heads. I am looking for advise on what motor to put back in. do I rebuild the 400 or swap in a 390 or a 460. I want a fun street truck that I could drive daily if I wanted. I have s second 67 f100 with a 352 but it would need rebuilt but tranny and mounts are good so swap would not be to bad just need feed back about motors power and reliability any help would be highly grateful
got what you need 460/C-6 and 67-72 mounts. Motor has about 80,000 miles and trans has 0-miles. New converter. motor is complete and running. Located in La.
Im in KY and a 460 uses same Trans and mounts as 400 dosent it I am not going for any thing crazy 300 to 400 HP should be fun both trucks have c6 and hope to get truck done by fall what are some pro cons to each I would like to hear even odd stuff
Investigate the torque convertor. A 460 one will probably have a stightly different stall than your 400 one. I have a stock 460 in my 1969 Camper Special. Love it. It won't keep up with my 2003 harley F150 of course but it would smoke my v8 cougar.
I already put a mini spool in rear and I have dual exhaust and a fuel cell to go in bed so I am looking for good feed back about best motor as far as reliability fuel mileage and cost of upgrades
Mini spool behind a 460. I wouldnt use one in a truck at all.
How do you know the 67 has a 352 in it ? The 352 can be a nice tight, DD with a quick wind for an FE. The price of a core 460 would net a kit for a 352, if it is a 352. I would check, and go from there. My 66' is 352/Cruiso and has plenty go/heave for me.
Rangerdan, The 67 would have come with a 352 no other V8 offered that year.
The 400 M that came in 77-79 trucks has a 7.5in top bolt hole spacing on the bell like the 460 & 429, and uses the same engine mounts as the 302. The 400 was considered a dog but can be built to be reasonable.
Quote: " I want a fun street truck that I could drive daily if I wanted." I agree with Bobby, the mini isn't much with daily driving, I believe you would be most unhappy with it. What are your plans for the other truck? Making 1 good one out of 2 isn't a bad idea, having 2 projects is. They never seem to get finished.
Worst thing about these ol trucks is that they are all ***** at the gas pump. You gotta have overdrive if you want to afford to drive it.
The plan is two trucks into one the one with the 352 needs floorboards cab mounts and wiring harness just to get started just not sure yet what motor I want to end up with dont want to rebuild one and wish I rebuilt the other and may go with a posi down the road and money is open dont want to spend a fortune but for the right parts I will make it work
