Wondering what your thoughts are on actually running my truck with this D44 after fixin this crack? Im about to purchase this axle hoping it is a good deal since it has this flaw. I currently have 87 shortbed non 4x4.
well what do you use the truck for, off roading towing plowing, and how did you crack it in the first place. also i am fairly certain that a d44 is a ttb axle but i could bw wrong i guess
What part of the axle is that? It doesn't look too bad. Welding might fix it. If not you should be able to find another for pretty cheap.
And Blue, the Dana 44 came as a TTB in our gen trucks, but on 78-79 broncos they were solid axle. It is a common swap to rid all the issues of TTB, but is a lot of work to do.
I don't think that doing an SAS with the old D44 is particularly hard. I've done 3 now. They are pretty tedious and time consuming though, and definitely not for a beginner. I've only done the swap with leaf sprung trucks though.
I wouldn't trust that axle. You'll end up sending a bigger crack through the housing going over bumps and stuff. I'd find another one.
