im trying to find out what axle i heve. i tried search but couldnt find exactly what i needed. the old owner said he thought it was a 60 but in my other thread a few guys said its a 44. well i was out this morning taking a wire brush to the pumpkin webbing and found a 60 stamped on it, the axle code on my door plate says 24p so what axle do i really have
yes it has both disk brakes and 8 lugs. i thought for sure it was a 44 until i found the 60 on the axle and now im just not sure what it is
It's more than likley a HD dana 44, 4:10 gears, and low pinion which were stock in highboys 76 to mid year 77 .. It still is a good front axle and will serve you well ..

Take the wire brush to it again, the "O" in 60 is actually a "C", under all the grease/grime it's often mistaken for a zero and guys think they have a 60 front.
Look at vic_v8's second pic and you can clearly (kinda) see the "44 6CF" stamp, indicating a 44HD axle.
