When I turn to the left at low speed, I hear a clicking noise. I put the truck into 4high and heard a slight click and tried turning and the clicking was gone. Could it be time for new hub's? I was thinking of going with manual hub's. Which brand should I look for.
maybe it's not your hubs at all it could be the rattle clip came off your brake pad and the inner pad is rattleing, just a thought. if it is a hub I would go with the warn premiums there guaranteed for life.
I left work the other night and when turning right out of the parking lot (90°turn) I heard a clunk noise(left front). I pulled over up the street and looked under and had a friend pull forward a bit and the axel and front driveshaft started spinning. I checked autozone and they have a Mile Marker coversion kit for $39. Is this what I want to buy? and could that clunk have been the front axel engaging? I drove the truck this weekend and it was fine. I'm planning on doing the balljoint's and hub's this week. My front wheel's are doing this / \
There is the "conversion kit" (or half, actually - you need 2 sets of that). It's only $24 for 2 sets there, but after shipping and time, I guess $40 isn't too bad.
I recall seeing a post dealing with manual hubs that had a link or links to web-sites where somebody walked through the steps of replacing the auto-hubs with the manual ones. Does anyone recollect what those were?
yo,
Yes, Steve has a bunch of excellent photos w/narrative on the hub swap:
I have his and some other tech articles in my new bronco site under Technical (hubs).
Well I bought a set of Warn Premiums and conversion kit. It cost me $147. The Hubs were $90 then coversion kit+tax $147. I didn't want the plastic ones so I went with the metal, which are the premiums. A couple of months ago there was a post with a link with a step by step with photos of the conversion. Anybody know where it went?
I have 5 screws on my hub's and I have been reading other post's in the forum that say that I don't need a conversion kit. Is this true? I don't need the conversion kit. If it is I'll return it and save $50.
Jbalestri:
I read through Steves conversion. It's this conversion kit thing that I am wondering about. I didn't see it in there.
I think the illustration that I was looking for was from Tony G(windrider). His link doesn't work anymore. I went through a forum search through all of the forums and found 117 threads on auto to manual hub's. (sheesh) this is an on going topic. Well it sounds like I don't need the conversion kit. That makes this alot easier. Sounds like I'm taking out one lock and putting in the new one. I'll let you know how I make out.
