I had just installed new 6,000K HIDs into my truck within the last month for a 1,500km drive I was planning. They were installed successfully and worked beautifully for the first 1 - 2 weeks. Eventually, they stopped turning on when I started the truck. Re-seating the inline 20A fuse fixed this problem. I just did the drive a few days ago, and my re-seating fix no longer works. I suspected the fuse was junk, and swapped it out first.. no luck. Resetting the ballasts will cause a brief flicker, and the ballasts will click while the lights flicker, but after a few seconds they shut off. All connections have been re-seated. I was unable to ground directly to the frame, and so the ground is connected directly to the negative on my battery. The motors that switch between high beams and low beams still seem to move, but don't effect the light situation. The fuse within the dashboard is still good as well. I'm sure the kit is still under warranty, but that would mean doing the 1,500km drive through the Rockys without headlights. What else can I do?
Ok a few questions so I'll run then together.
Do you know if they are AC or DC, Is there a relay to power then from the battery
or are you getting the power from the lighting wiring, Have you installed capacitors?
The Cheep DC ballasts don't last very long. The reason for the relay from the battery
is so that you don't drop the voltage going to the unit. Factory wiring sucks for that.
A capacitor will give a little kick when the voltage sags.
Try hooking one ballast direct to the battery and see if it will light and stay on. If
it does that points to a bad connection or bad relay if you have one.
Let me know what you find and I will try to help you out.
