203,000 miles and mine uses about a quart every 3000 miles, not one wrench turned on the motor. 40 psi oil pressure at hot idle, 60 at cruise. 1993 F-250 4X4 ZF 5-speed.

I have heard that even using a quart every 800-900 miles is considered normal oil consumption.

Not my idea of normal, but what the MFG's consider....

All depends on engine condition and random engine variations. My 94 460 with 70,000+(maybe 20K towing) burns maybe half a quart in 7,500 miles using Valvoline synthetic.

Other engines I have owned usually burned maybe 1 quart between oil changes if they were in decent condition. I have had some engines where I knew I had a oil leak and those might "burn" a quart every thousand or two. Some manufacturers do consider a quart every 1,000 as within norms, but most mechanics would disagree. I think most mechanics would view a quart every 2,000 assuming no leaks as the minimum acceptable.

Just my thoughts, based on probably over a million miles, hundreds of oil changes and maybe a dozen personal vehicles.
