I have a question maybe yall can help me with. I have a 2002 explorer with a 4.6 v-8 in it, but it has a broken time chain tensioner, and I also have a 1996 f-150 with a 4.9 straight six. The truck is totaled out.
The question is sence the 4.9 and trans is good in the f-150 How hard would it be to put the 4.9 in the 2002 explorer? How difficult would that be? would anything match up or would I have to change everything (motor, trans, and computer).
oh and by the way the explorer is 4X4 and the f 150 is not.
thank you all for the help and if you could I would appreciate all website i could get to help with this swap

hello are you sure the 4.9L electrical would have to be total redone because the 4.9 I have is a 1996 OBDII I know the trans is the same model even thew I may have to change the belt housing. the fabricating to get the 4.9 in the explorer isnot that big of a challenge to me
Why would you want to spend a couple hundred hours trying to fabricate a custom powertrain and engine control system instead of spending half of a day replacing a timing chain tensioner?

I can understand how you would ask that question, but the exporer has a 4.0 and would have to pull motor to change timing because its the one in back and the 4.9 I have is to strong modified motor and I think in the explore 4x4 would be extremely fun with the independent suspention and the light weight
