I'm thinking about putting a set of air horns or train horns on my 2004 F-250. Any ideas on what would be the best brand or the LOUDEST lol. Also I'm debating on mounting them on the roof or under the hood. I think it would be BAD A** to have a cord hang from the headliner like a semi lol. Any ideas or comments appreciated.
I was lucky and found a complete kit at auction for $50 and it came with a Gast ROA compressor(ROA-P201-JH). I had never heard of that brand before but it does the job pretty well. I have two small air tanks on board that feed the air horns, air suspension and air ride hitch. It takes about 4 minutes to pressurize a 10 gallon tank to 100 psi so if you need more air flow then you might want to look into some of the Viair products out there.
I seen online where one guy had put a fitting on the frame to plug in an air hose which I think would be pretty cool to have if I had a low tire.
I have an air line fitting on my truck. There is enough volume in the system to break about 4 of the lugs free with an impact gun. Then I have to wait for it to recharge to break the other 4 free. It also takes quite a while to air up a tire....tires hold a LOT of air.
In my case I've found it's easier and quicker to keep a 120v compressor on board and use that when the need arises. I have a generator in one of the bins so it's a little more convenient. If I didn't have a generator on board, and I needed a massive amount of air on a regular basis then I'd think about putting one of these on my truck. The 7.3 engines have an option for 2 alternators but most only use 1, so the other spot is vacant. This fits there nicely.
I've got a small set of four train horns mounted behind the front license plate on my 2011 F-450. Three gallon tank and Viair 200 psi compressor in the bed under the roll-up box for the electric bed cover. (I got the twin compressor kit, just waiting for a chance to install the second one.) Firestone airbags with an automatic leveling valve for towing the fiver and an air outlet at the rear bumper for airing up tires and the TrailAir pinbox.
I thought those train horns were loud with the 100 psi compressor from Firestone, but when it went bad and I installed the 200 psi kit, WOW!
Here is a video and a photo of them mounted in the bed. They are Nathans brand horns but do not know the model. The truck has air suspension so those black tanks do double duty.
Got a set of horn blasters. Easy instal. All four horns are mounted on my frame, tank and compressor are in my tool box with air fittings and 100 feet of hose. Worked great when I blew out a camper tire. They are crazy loud. My compressor runs off upfitter 1. And to activate the horns it's upfitter 2. One day I'll move up to Nathan's, when I have some play money
