Well, I've been watching my coolant and deltas like a hawk and I saw it rising on the way home tonite.I pulled over at 205 on the coolant and it was 200 on the oil temp. I could see the bubbles in the degas bottle and I knew it's one of 2 things, maybe 3. EGR Cooler,Head gaskets and/or a cracked head. I started a price list on it all and I think I'm going to go EGR delete,it will save me $750.00. If I have to do the gaskets if I find the cooler is good ( I'm going to pressure ck it real good ) I'm praying the heads not cracked, but if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. In this case I'm going to be the test dummie for the aftermarket new heads unless someone has used them. I'll keep you all posted as I go. I'm going to start getting ready to re flush the block and my IPR coolant filter is on the way If anyone has some great prices on stuff let me know. The wife gave me the evil eye when I told her
Naa, no coolant in the fuel, first thing I ck'd. Bubbles coming out the degas bottle, running, when I took the cap off. As it cooled down they stop. Hoping it's just a blown ERG cooler. I have a napa water pump in it hope that's not the problem.
ECT 221*
EOT 251* maybe it was 253* anyway one of the 2
At these points the engine will derate in an attempt to save itself
Right around ECT 218* some do it sooner and will depend on stratigy you are running but you should here the Fan Kick in like a Jet Fighter and Cool it down fast
in your situation there is n othing to be concerned with unless you are Puking or loosing coolant
Check blockage going thru your radiator. Maybe you picked up a plastic bag or road debris? Your temps are high for living in NJ and the cold OAT. The Delta's look fine like others have mentioned, just a bit warm.
I took the chance and drove it in to work this morning. Started up as usual and temps where normal until I got on the parkway and they rose 2 to 3 degrees higher than normal. Got to work and let it idle and it settled down to where it usually is. I should have put the coolant pressure gauge back on last night but I was going to drive it in to work (wife neened the Sierra for a job at her business) so I took big blu. What has me stumped it doesn't do it all the time but it is doing it more often, that's what makes me feel it's a headgasket or a cracked head. It gets to a certain temp and opens up letting hot gases in the coolant. Anyone ever run into this on these trucks, I've seen plenty of times in the marine engine because they are raw water cooled
Have you ever replaced the T-stat? It could be sticking possibly. Your Deltas arent bad, just a little high, maybe replace the degas bottle cap as well, they are known to cause issues and there is an updated part too.
Are you running a tune, if so how hot and what are your driving habits?
Is it a custom tune or a off the shelf tune like a Banks or Edge or something like that?
Sarge there no tunes new Ford t stat, new cap new rad new water pump and flushed, all done when I put it together ( was a total in the front end light hit, why they totaled it I'll never know ) I think they might have ran it at the yard where was kept before I bought it with thecoolant hot and when the stat opened all hell broke loose and blew a gasket or cracked a head. I'm gonna put the pressure gauge back on when I vet home cause I have errands to do for my wife and run it hard ( which I don't do usually ) I'll get it to do it again M Chan told me to take the hose off the manifold and fill a container if it doesn't then the pump is toast (Napa water pump) fan clutch is new too
Benny, this truck is likr brand new inside and out, even smells new, hasone scratch on the drives side bed and that's it.And that will be fixed next week...oh and the brake pedal shows wear so I ordered a new one.
I think maybe that was the piece of the puzzle we were missing. You never know what happens after the tow truck driver drops it off...or before for that matter.
I would do what Miketold ya and go from there, but you maybe doing head gaskets it kinda sounds like.
