Picked up a set of 20inch X 12.5 XD series rims(the black rockstar rims) for my 02 F250.325/70R20. So many choices for tires figured I'd ask for some help choosing. I drive the truck primarily on the road so not too much tire noise, but when I go off road I still want to perform. I've looked into the mickey thompson tires they seem to have a good selection but expensive. Help!
Toyo mt is what you need, they are not loud and will outlast Mickey Thompson as well as most others...as for price if you cheap out now you`ll pay more later
I agree with the Toyo MT's. Quiet, ride nice, great traction in mud and snow and knarly looking to boot!! May check out the new Nitto Grappler MT also. I had Nitto Grappler's before the Toyo's and they wore like iron. The new MT looks more aggressive too.
if the toyo's wear better than my MTZ's did then i need a set... i got just shy of 70,000 outta my first set of MTZ's. they have my blessing. expensive, but they sure didn't owe me anything when i replaced them.
I have the newest generation Nitto Trail Grappler MT's and i love them. Have been through hell and back with them in mud, not much snow in texas but any farmer or rancher down here knows that when it rains it floods any cotton field and i have never slipped these tires in a cotton field, hunting lease, ranch, boat ramp, or anywhere i can think of. I have approx 25000 on them and have at least half (prolly more) tread life left and i do quite a bit of highway and road driving towing trailers and livestock and boat. When i need a new set, i will get these again.
One big key for a tire of this nature IMO, is to keep them inflated at or just below the factory PSI rating so as to extend tire life and rotate as often as possibnle.. every 3000-5000 and they will last longer!!
X2 on the Nitto Trail Grapplers. They've been awesome, seen several nasty ice storms (for Texas), several nasty snow storms (for Colorado), and one blizzard where my FM road was a solid sheet of ice for a week, and never let me down; that's impressive for an M/T compared to something like a BFG that is sipped all over. In mud they're awesome, especially that silty crap we get right under the grass in pastures when it rains. Didn't get torn up by caliche road or limestone scree on hunting trips. They're rated at 4080# for my size, and they're absolute rocks under a 10k trailer.
Noise wise, I can hear them over the 6.0 on the highway. Nothing a radio on 6 won't drown out.
Yeah, Lubbock is a..... special place. If you've never been, look up C-T Rodeo and see if Charlie is still running a weekly series out at the Fair Grounds on Saturday nights. The only place I got my T/Gs stuck was in the city arena over off 4th and Ave A, I was trying not to carve out tracks after dropping a trailer demo for his Midwinter Championships and the sand/mud/crap just ate me alive. How bad is that, the only place I got my truck stuck was 1) indoors, and 2) had freaking heaters to keep us warm while we chained me up!
