Thinking of selling my 08

Here is the deal, I have a 08, F250 6.4l Lariat Supercab. I bought the truck to tow a trailer, but plans changed. I never have used it for towing, just for the family truckster. It is coming off of warranty in two months, and a warranty extension is $3400 for the good one. I am terrified of owning it without a warranty. It has never had single problem, regens every 670 miles on the dot and does not make oil. It has 50K miles. I live in Hillsboro, Oregon and cannot find anyone that works on these trucks other than the dealer. I am thinking about removing the DPF and tuning, but that cost money. So, I am thinking of getting a F150 with a 5.0 Liter. I have followed this forum for 5 years and value input. I do some town driving and some hiway and the mileage is really poor, and diesel costs about 60 cents over gas. The real reason is I cannot afford a major repair, so either I pay for a warranty or sell it. Advice please!

sounds to me like in the long run a F150 is what would serve you best, imho.

my first question is what is you fuel mileage? will a 5.0 get much better? i know they can break into the 20's out on the road but curious what your getting now. do you put alot of miles on in a year to make a difference? we just bought our 6.4 at the beginning of the year after looking at a bunch of new trucks with the 5.0 and ecoboost but decided to go with a used truck instead. just like the idea that diesel hold their value better in the long run. everything i read about the 6.4 made me decided that if i hadn't bought a truck with a tuner and delete kit that it would be figured into the purchase price and installed asap. the tuner and delete kit would be less than the extended warranty that's for sure but i can understand the comfort of having a warranty. but like senix said you might be better off with a Gasser.

STOP!!!!!!!!!! lol don't do it. There incredibly nice trucks, I've got the 5.4 but programmed and I can get 18. If you get your truck programmed and deleted it'll run 22+. That will pay itself off for the programming and warranty. Performance shops are a dime a dozen and can find them every where. If you go to the gasser you'll miss the power and torque. I'm at the point where I'd kill to have a 6.4 instead of my truck

I love my 6.4 but it definitely sounds like the F150 would probably suit you better. The good news is that you should get a good dollar for your F250 and get into a fully equipped F150 for minimal difference. I have a friend that just got a new F150 with the V6 Eco-boost. While not as good as advertised he still gets 26-27MPG which you would NEVER get with a 6.4. Best of luck with your decision.

I have had the truck parked in the shop and only use it for road trips to central oregon and back. Now my daughter is taking my car and I need to drive the truck daily. I like the F250 because it is sooo quiet. I anticipate driving 12K per year. So, I will be running around town, etc.. I cannot find a diesel shop in Hillsboro, Oregon that will support the 6.4, only the 6.0's.

So trade it in and get what you want. It's just a truck. If you're not towing anything I can't think of any sound reason to own a diesel truck. And, you're right, if money is a little tight you can't afford to own one of these outside warranty. I would not modify it. You have a stock, low mileage super duty and that should be an easy sell. I looked at a 2013 like mine the other day and the sticker was right at 60,000 dollars, for a f***king truck. So, 30K for a low mileage used truck looks reasonable. Good luck.

You WILL NOT by any means get 22+ miles per gallon unless you're coasting downhill with a tailwind.
