Ever since I bought my '95 f-150 in '99 with 40K miles on it, it would sometimes slightly chatter or quickly jump out and back into gear. This would seem to happen during low load situations. This past weekend, while heading for a fishing trip, boat in tow, it started doing this chatter or whatever it is, much more frequently, about an hour into the trip. I went ahead and fished. On the way home it started again...about halfway home. The problem seems to be a actuator or valve kind of thing? It seems to happen after the tranny gets hot. I have driven it back and forth to work since then and it seems OK? I want to do something before I tow again. I plan on chaging the fluid and filter this weekend. I was considering adjusting the bands but I don't know how. Can somebody post the procedure? Does anybody have any other ideas?
Diesezen, Thanks for the reply. No the light hasn't been flashing. For what it's worth, I have never seen it flash. I don't know how to extract tranny codes. I do have an engine code reader. I'm assuming it's an E4OD based on the year (95).
Well Chris,
If you have the overdrive light, you have the E4OD (unless a P.O. changed out to a C6) although I'm not sure when the 4R100 became the replacement for the E4OD?
At any rate, if you have a code reader, do you have a manual to go along with it? If you don't, I will post the procedure for you. Once you get codes, if any are set, post them and I will get back to you on the meanings. R.A.
