What Drive type?

My 78 F-150 has a 9'' rear axel I was wondering if it had posi trac or if it was a open diff or what, can some body tell me? Do these diffs give power to both wheels on take off? My dads 92F-150 gives power to one wheel only and when going faster than 30mph the other wheel kicks in. If I do a burnout in a straight will there be two tire marks or a single wimpy one? Would I need a locker to do this? thanks for any advice!

Look at the tag on the hoghead. It should be under one of the nuts. It will have a number starting on the bottom row. The first number is real close to the nut so clean it good. If if says 3.25, you have a 3.25 geared open rear end. If it says 3L25, then you have a 3.25 limited slip(posi) rearend.
If the tag is gone, Jack up one of the rear tires. Make sure that the vehicle is chalked so it won't roll, Put it in neutral, if you can turn the tire, it is open, if not, it is posi.
