I'm not 100% but that would be my guess. They seem to know we have trouble fitting anything bigger than a 3" dp. Mine is a 3" dp to 5" from diamond eye.
Well I'm just waiting on a reply back from them, I should hear back by monday.. A tight fit is better than no fit. I just wish I could do the turbo and exhaust at the same time. Oh well, the pipe isn't going to rust any time soon. I still have other work to do anyway.
Beside cutting that well where the dp goes through, there aren't really very many options except to accept a small downpipe, and a bigger exhaust to push the volume out. I guess it's better than pushing all the exhaust out a single 3" straight pipe. Looks like I might need to log some lift time at the garage on post!
Got it done hopefully....luv doing the job twice. As a bonus it got some metal shavings in me eye....don't know how they got behind my safety goggles....but Easter Sunday morning sitting in the ER waiting to get them out. ...good times. ....this is why I don't like working on my truck

The sawzall threw a pretty good one into my eye when I was cutting the stock exhaust. It came right out but I had a nice little red scratch on my eye for a few days. I dont mind working on the truck as long as it doesn't involve that damn sawzall.

Dang, sorry you have to sit in the ER, been there plenty of times, never for metal shavings though, glad you got the job done, you have any pictures of how you fitted the pipe? good luck in the ER, hope you get to spend some time with family today!
I had a porta power......I used a small 2x4 but was afraid of cracking the trans housing. I think I will try the air hammer and see if it makes a difference. If not I guess I will try the porta power again w/ two 2x4's. What did you put the 2x4's against? The trans?
Yep, put one in there until you run out of throw on the duck bill, then put another in there and make yourself lots of room. I've done 2 trucks this way with no issues... I don't see cracking a trans case but anything is possible!

Diamond Eye kits are 3" DP and go to 4" at the cat/cat delete pipe.
Well, I took a look again at the kit, it's a 2 piece DP, so if I would rather put a small bend in the pipe to make it fit, than to cut up the body like that..
Oh daaaaum, what was all that for anyway? Looks like a lot of repair work!

Dont put a small bend in the pipe, the main reason to change the stock DP is to obtain a better flow, if you put the bend it theoretically will reduce the flow, and it surely is 3" and with some massage in the fire wall, it will fit.
BTW IIRC that work in the pics was to fit a 4" DP

Alright, well looks like now I wait. How recent were those pictures?

Those pics were taken by a friend of mine (strokersace) a few years ago when he was swapping parts from his SD to his OBS. He converted the motor over to SD accessories and wanted to run the SD down pipe (4") and what you see is what it takes to make an SD down pipe fit in an OBS truck. It still rubbed on the frame so he had to dimple it there as well. He said that if he had to do it again, he wouldn't... too much work.
Every OBS aftermarket down pipe sold that I'm aware of is a 2 piece design because there just isn't much room to work with there. Cut the old one out, push the firewall in with whatever method you desire, and install the new one. No need to cut anything, or bend the new down pipe, or any of that nonsense.

Thank you Chase, I didnt remember that story, and agree with what you said. The best DP IMHO is 3" to 3 1/2" to 4" in two pieces, Tymar sells them and IIRC are made by Hypermax.

Wow, that seems a ridiculous undertaking, but if it all turned out well then good for him!
Well, The pipe will just have to sit around for a little bit, Putting it on isn't going to be a high priority just yet. But thanks again for clearing that up about the DP, had me a little concerned for a second that a messed up and got the wrong exhaust.
