Manual Steering Gear?
I have a 4 wheel drive 1990 F250 that is having some steering problems. The power steering pump is in need of replacement and i have reason to believe the steering gear is worn and also needs to be replaced. I was looking into replacement parts, and A1 Cardone makes a remanufactured manual steering gear. I was wondering if I should consider doing away with the power steering and go to manual steering. I've never driven a vehicle with manual steering, only vehicles with power steering that wasnt working. I would imagine steering with a manual steering gear would be easier than that, but i was wondering if it would be easy enough that it would be worth it. Also, would i need a different steering shaft to accomodate the manual steering gear? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

"Armstrong" steering on a 4x4 is asking for pain. I had a '69 4x4 F250 with manual steering, and hated it. Off-road, it will spin the wheel in your hands, and parking really sucks.
The power steering pump isn't too expensive, I'd replace it, and the steering gear if it's bad, and stay with power steering...
