Water in fuel message

I have a 2006 f350 6.0MG !!. The WIF message appeared the other day for the first time. Had a fair weather day yesterday so I got under and loosened the drain plug to control the flow into a clear bottle. A bit of dirt and a small amount of water in first bottle full. I continued to drain more hoping to empty the side rail unit so I could install upgraded plug, but after about 5 bottle fulls it just kept coming. I finally had enough but wonder how much fuel is supposed to come out if I wanted to change the filter ?? Does this process go until tank is empty ?? Far from the few minutes other members suggest is all it takes to regularly do this. And how will I clear the message? Advise would be appreciated. Thank you

Park the truck nose up with at least half a tank.

Park nose down and it runs out forever.

Thanks for the wake up Josh. I've bumped my head more than a couple times over the years and your reply gave me one of those 'DUH' moments as I indeed have the truck backed into my uphill driveway. One other dumb question is when I drain the hfcm will the horizontal filter also be empty to change out ?
